Dean B. Eckles, Winterset

Dan B. Eckles, 69, of Winterset died from complications following heart surgery May 23, 1998, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with Pastors Jon Gaul and John Shaull officiating. Cremation followed the service. The burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date.

Dean Eckles was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Atlantic to Donald and Edna (Benson) Eckles. He married Evelyn Shade on Nov. 20, 1949, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Having farmed most of his life, he also had been an assistant manager at Commercial Credit Equipment Corp. in Ventura, Calif., for several years and had been employed for 10 years as a house parent for American Institute of Business in Des Moines, where he retired with emeritus status. He was a member of the Evening Star Masonic Lodge 43.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Patricia Weeks (husband Steve) of Winterset; one son, Dennis Eckles (wife Linda) also of Winterset; one brother, Wayne A. Eckles (wife Martha) of Griswold, Iowa; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contribuyions may be directed to The Nature Conservancy or the American Heart Association.

Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset handled the arrangements.
