Levi Wasson Dies Suddenly

Levi Wasson, one of the oldest residents of Winterset, was found dead on --- at the rear of Carey Brothers grocery where he had been sleeping for the past few months. He was in his usual health Sunday evening and it is believed he died from an attack of heart trouble.

Vi Wasson, as he was best known, came to this county in 1856. From some cause he could not talk in ordinary language but made himself understood in signs and short words or Indian fashion. In spite of this handicap he was a shrewd observer and years ago he followed the trade of harness maker, at which he excelled.

He seldom went away from the public square and for years had not been outside of the city. He had a kind, inoffensive way and his familiar face will be missed on the streets of Winterset, where he spent so many years.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ on Tuesday afternoon and burial in the family lot in the Winterset cemetery.

One brother, E. E. Wasson, of Douglas township survives him. He was past 71 years of age.
