Obituary--Mrs. A. M. Farris

Eva Bird Farris was born in Madison county, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1860. Departed this life March 24, 1911 at Des Moines, Iowa. Mrs. Farris, the subject of this sketch was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Butler Bird, pioneer settlers of Madison county, both of whom have been called from life's labors to that better life beyond.

Her entire life was spent in the eastern part of the county the family having temporarily moved to Des Moines last fall in order to be with their daughter while attending college.

For a number of years she followed the occupation of teaching and scores of her pupils now grown to adult years revere her memory--the memory of one whose daily life exemplified the highest type of christian womanhood.

February 12, 1890, she was married to Albert M. Farris, who with one daughter survive her. Of the parental family their (there) remains three sisters, Mrs. May Howell, Mrs. W. D. Patterson, Mrs. D. T. Miles and one brother, Graham Bird, all of whom live in the county.

Her life was one of activity and usefulness. In her home she was a queen among women, her life being one of unselfish and cheerful devotion to her loved ones and friends.

Funeral services were held at Patterson on Monday, conducted by Rev. Andrew Coffey of Des Moines and burial at the McGinnis Cemetery.

Neighborhood News - Patterson

Mrs A. M. Farris formerly of this place died last week at the Methodist hospital and was brought here Monday morning for burial. The funeral was held at the Christian church at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Coffee of St, Charles.
