Page 1An Old Resident Passes Away.
Word was received yesterday morning of the death of Nelson W. Munger, which occurred very suddenly at his home in Des Moines at five o'clock in the morning of that day.
For many years Mr. Munger was one of the notable citizens and businessmen of this place. He was born in Hampton county, Mass. in 1834. He came to Winterset in 1854 and engaged in the mercantile business. Afterwards in company with Mr. J. T. White he erected a large woolen mill one mile west of town which they successfully operated for many years until it burned in 1877. He was also a large dealer in real estate and operated several farms. Mr. Munger was considered one of the most successful of our early businessmen. In 1889 he moved to Des Moines where he continued his operations in real estate, and at the time of his death owned the Munger Hotel on 4th street besides considerable other property. He leaves his wife and one daughter, Mrs. W. E. Ballard, to mourn him.
The remains will be brought here tomorrow, June 3d, on the noon train, and be taken directly to the cemetery for interment.
