Edmond W. Harrell was born in Jackson county, Ind., June 13, 1823, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Holmes in Winterset, Oct. 26, 1914 age 91 years, 5 months and 13 days.
He came to Iowa Oct. 27, 1852, 62 years ago, locating in Scott township, which has continued to be his home with the exception of two years spent in Winterset for the education of his family, and since the death of his companion, has made his home with his daughter, who moved to Winterset one year ago last April.
On March 18, 1860, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Johnson, who preceeded him in death March 17, 1904. Four children were born to this union, two sons and two daughters. One son, C. A., died 16 years ago. One daughter died when two and a half years of age. Those living are Edgar of Scott township, and Mrs. John Holmes of Winterset.
Beside the above mentioned, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grand children mourn his death. He was next oldest of seven brothers and last to go. Mr. Harrell took great and just pride in his pioneer life in Iowa, and was a loved and honored citizen of this great commonwealth, which he helped to create. Funeral services were held Oct. 28, at Zion church, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial in the Beardsley cemetery.
