Irvin W. Martens, 83, of Lakeland, Fla., died of a heart attack June 23, 1999, at Lakeland.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial was at Resthaven Cemetery also in West Des Moines.

Irvin Martens was born Oct. 14, 1915, to Frederick W. and Anna (Russ) Martens of Winterset. He resided inWinterset until 1997, at which time he moved to Lakeland. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. In 1978, he retired as a cashier at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Winterset. Irvin was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Lakeland, American Legion in Winterset and the Madison County Historical Society. He also was a former Lions Club member.

He is survived by his wife, Lucile O. Martens of Lakeland; one sister, Esther Storck of Winterset; and seven nephews and nieces.
