Businessman LAWRENCE WHITE Died Wednesday

Lawrence J. White, 71, co-owner of the Winterset-Des Moines Monument Company for 51 years, died Wednesday, May 31, 1978, at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was prominent in both business and social affairs in Winterset, born October 27, 1906, in Montgomery County, Iowa, to Sidney R. and Gertrude DeWitt White.

He was a member of the Winterset school board from 1943 to 1952, a charter member and past president of the Lakeview Country Club and a former deacon and elder at the First Christian Church in Winterset where he was also superintendent of Sunday School for 15 years.

White and his late brother, Sid, were announcers at Winterset football games for many seasons.

The marriage of Lawrence White to Estella Vaughan took place December 4, 1926, in Winterset. She survives her husband. Also surviving are two sons, Robert of Des Moines and Ronald of Minneapolis; a brother Robert White of Red Bluff, California; and five grandchildren.

White was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Myrlee Smith, Mildred Letz and Mable Kastler; and a brother, Sid White.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. from the First Christian Church of Winterset. Rev. David Livingston officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
