John Robert Algoe, rural Peru

Services for John Robert Algoe, 67, rural Peru, who died Sept. 3 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held Friday, Sept. 6 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Madison County on June 3, 1918, he was the son of David and Emma Haines Algoe. A farmer, Mr. Algoe was a lifetime resident of the county. He was a member of the Zion Federated Church and had been a 4-H leader, a member of the Extension council, a trustee and school director at Scott township, and a member of the Madison County Cattlemen's Association, the Pork Producers Association and the Peru Conservation Club.

On Nov. 22, 1941, he was married to Fern L. Ham in Des Moines.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Byrle of Peru; daughters, Marilyn Smith of Van Meter, Sherry Tolley of Winterset, and Connie Manny of Peru; sisters, Goldie Lightner and Pearl Tyer, both of Winterset, Ruby Gray of Crestline, Calif., and Elsie Satterlee of Bentonville, Ark.; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
