Merl L. Mueller, Winterset

Memorial services for Merl L. Mueller, 63, rural Swan, who died Oct. 7 at the Winterset Care Center North, were held at the Collins Funeral Home on Oct. 9 with the Rev. Bob Brite officiating. Burial was at the U.B. Jefferson Cemetery in rural Van Meter.

Mr. Mueller was born in rural Van Meter Dec. 1, 1922, the son of Ernest and Georgia Hunt Mueller. He was a World War II Coast Guard veteran and had been employed at Firestone Tire in Des Moines.

He grew up on the family farm in Jefferson township and attended Greenwood Country School. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Coast Guard. He received a medical discharge due to asthma.

Memorial offerings may be made to the George Washington Carver fund.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Sankey of Swan; brothers, Ernest W. Mueller Jr. of LeMars, and George Mueller of Van Meter; sisters, Gretchen Casper of Winterset, Emma Chaffee of Detroit, Mich., and Etta Frink of Yuba City, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
