MRS. JOHN RYAN Died Tuesday

Mrs. John J. Ryan, a life long resident of Madison County and a member of a prominent family in this community, died early Tuesday morning, December 3, 1963, at a Des Moines hospital. She was 50 years of age, and had been in failing health for several months. She had been a patient at the hospital, for the past ten days.

Mrs. Ryan was the former Marcella Jane Cunningham, familiarly known as Sally, daughter of Peter J. and Marcella Monaghan Cunningham of near Winterset. She was born here, October 18, 1913. She attended the Winterset high school and was graduated with the class of 1930. She attended St. Joseph Academy in Des Moines, during her Sophomore and Junior years. She later attended Clarke college in Dubuque, for two years, and then took her last two years of college at the University of Iowa at Iowa City, receiving her B.A. degree in 1934. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta National social sorority.

She was married April 26, 1939 to John J. Ryan of Crawford township, and for many years they made their home near Patterson. Mr. Ryan died October 28, 1959.

Surviving are a son, Michael P. Ryan of Canoga Park, Calif., and a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Ryan (Betty) at home; a grandson, John Michael Ryan of Canoga Park; two brothers, John E. Cunningham and Peter J. Cunningham of Winterset, and three sisters, Mrs. Merritt Baur of Jefferson township, and Mrs. Walter Vance and Mrs. Richard Carraher of LaGrange, Illinois. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.

Rosary services will be held this Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, from St. Joseph's Catholic church, with requiem Mass at 10 a.m. The V. Rev. Msgr. John W. Higgins, pastor of the church will conduct the service. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
