William Anderson McLees, 72, former resident of Winterset and retired executive director of the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital, died March 28, 1998, at his Charleston, S.C. residence.
A memorial service was held March 31 at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Burial was in the churchyard.
William McLees was born in Winterset to Ralph and Mabyl (McKenzie) McLees. He was a graduate of Winterset High School and Drake University and received his master's and doctorate degree from the University of Iowa. He also attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Dr. McLees was a former director of Division, Plans and Development of Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind., a former professor with the University of Iowa and a professor with the Medical University of South Carolina from 1972-91. He was a member of the American Hospital Association and American College of Health Care Executives and was an honorary member of the South Carolina Hospital Assoociation. He also was a member and former treasurer of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Lint McLees; two sons, Mark A. of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. Steven A. of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, John K. McLees of Boulder, Colo.; one sister, Madene M. Comp of Fort Collins, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
