FRED FARQUHAR Died October 1st

Fred C. Farquhar, well known resident of Winterset and Madison county, passed away in his sleep early Tuesday morning, October 1, 1946. Mr. Farquhar, who was 83 years of age, had been in apparent good health, and on Sunday entertained his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knight of Estherville in his home.

Fred Curran Farquhar, a son of Francis P. and Lucinda Bagley Farquhar, was born in Frederickstown, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1863. When he was still a small child, the family moved to West Liberty, and later to Audubon county.

In 1893, he was married to Margaret Smith of Bristow, and in 1900 they moved to a farm near Winterset. Later the family moved to Winterset where he has for many years operated a plant and vegetable garden.

Mr. Farquhar was raised a Quaker, and while on the farm was acive in the Zion church, being superintendent of the Sunday school. When the family moved to Winterset, he joined the First Presbyterian church here, and had been an active member for many years, serving as an elder at the time of his death. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge.

Mrs. Farquhar preceded him in death in 1940. He is survived by two daughters, Irma, Mrs. R. S. Knight of Estherville and Phoebe, Mrs. Ray Fulls of Kingsley, Kansas. He also leaves three grandchildren, Robert Fulls and Roberta and Margaret Knight; his sister, Miss May Farquhar of Audubon and a brother, George Farquhar of Villisca.

The Rev. Howard Strong, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will conduct his funeral service which will be held at the Anderson funeral home, Thursday afternoon Oct. 3rd at 3:30 o'clock, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
