E. S. DEARDORFF DIES AT 89 YEARS

Had Operated Club Cafe in Winterset for 17 Years

Ezra S. Deardorff, retired Winterset business man and a resident of the community since 1930, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, at a Winterset nursing home. His death ended an extended period of failing health. He was 89 years of age.

Mr. Deardorff was a native of Indiana, where he was born at Pierston on Feb. 27, 1876. He was married there in 1908, to Bess Humphries.

They moved to Idaho where he engaged in farming for a number of years at Blackfoot. Later they went in the mercantile business in Pierre, S.Dak.

Mr. and Mrs. Deardorff came to Winterset in 1930, when they purchased the Club cafe. They operated this business until 1947 when they retired.

Mr. Deardorff was a member of the Knights of Pythias at Winterset, and a former member of the Masonic order.

Mrs. Deardorff died in 1958. In 1960, he was married to Marie Anderson who survives him.

He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Peter Lord of Santa Paula, Calif.; three granddaughters; a half sister, Jane Lowers of Columbia City, Ind.; a step-son, Robert Anderson of Lorimor; and three step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Friday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Marvin Behrens, pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
