Lela Lucas, Winterset

Lela Lucas, 83, died July 11, 2005, at Winterset Care Center South.

A memorial graveside service was held Saturday, July 16, at Winterset Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating.

Lela Rebecca Lucas was born Nov. 28, 1921, to Cecil and Nellie Berdina (Brown) Sanders of Alexandria, Minn. On Nov. 16, 1938, she married Kale R. Lucas in Bethany Mo. Lela, a resident of Madison County for most of her life, had been a cook at the Star Lite Cafe in Winterset. She also was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant brother, Ray Sanders.

She is survived by three daughters, Dixie Lee McDonald of Winterset, Shirley Ann Daggett of Denver, Colo., and Donna Boor of Osceola; two sisters, Alberta Turley of Winterset and Gladys Wools of Springfield, Ore.; and 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.

Arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
