ROSS ROGERS Died Sunday

Ross R. Rogers of Winterset, descendant of the first pioneer settlers of Madison county, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1969, at Madison Manor here. He was 82 years of age.

Mr. Rogers was a grandson of Caleb and Ruth Clanton Clark, the pioneer family which established the first permanent settlement in this county in 1846.

He was a life-long resident of the county. He was born here March 10, 1887, a son of Elihu and Martha Clark Rogers. His active life was spent as a stone mason and brick layer.

Mr. Rogers was married, as a young man, to Agnes Harp, whose death occurred in 1918. In 1921 he was married to Annie Simmons, whose death occurred in 1960.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mabel Forbes of Branson, Mo., Mrs. Junietta Wilson of Orient, Mrs. Dawn Clipperton of Runnels, and Mrs. Kathleen Whatley of Glendale, Calif. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Christensen of California.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur. Burial was to be made in the Winterset Cemetery.
