Well-Known Farmer Here Was Life-Time Resident of Madison County
Clark A. Simmons, well-known farmer and life-time resident of Madison county, died Monday, May 1, at his home north of Winterset in Union township. He was 81 years of age.
Mr. Simmons was born on a farm south of Winterset July 20, 1885, a son of Charles L. and Blanche Frazier Simmons. His life was spent farming in this community.
He was married July 14, 1909, to Mabel E. Johnson, who survives. Mr. Simmons was a member of the First Methodist church in Winterset.
His son, Vernon, R. Simmons, died in battle during World War II while serving with the U. S. Air Force in the European theater of operations. He was preceded in death also by an infant daughter, Cleola Fay.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four children, Mrs. Helen Fulton of Des Moines, Charles E. Simmons of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. June Friend of Park Ridge, Ill., and Mrs. Rose Moorhead of Boulder, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from the First Methodist church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Everett K. Burham. Burial will be made in Winterset cemetery.
