Gertrude Ellen Simmons, 91, died April 7, 2002 of multiple organ system failure at Winterset Care Center South.
A private family graveside service was held today (Wednesday, April 10) at Peru Cemetery with Pastor Robert Barrick officiating.
Gertrude Simmons was born May 1, 1910, to John G. and Laura (Woods) Farr of Peru. She married Ora Dale Simmons in June of 1927 in Indianola. A homemaker, she had been a member of the Cozy Club, Pythian Sisters and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, a brother and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Simmons (wife Elaine) of Manchester and Gary Simmons (wife Mary Ann) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Winterset or Winterset Care Center South.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
