Arch W. Wight, widely known Madison county resident, died at his home in Winterset last Friday, February 16th, 1934, after a brief illness caused by nervous shock and pneumonia. He was 60 years old.
Arch Wight was born in Webster township, September 13th, 1873. In that community he grew to manhood and spent most of his life. In 1898 he was married to Mata Hart, and they were the parents of four children.
About 25 years ago Mr. Wight joined the Oak Grove Evangelical church where he had since remained a member.
A few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Wight moved to Winterset. Here he has been employed by the Farmers' Elevator company.
The deceased is survived by his wife; one son, Harry; three daughters, Dorothy Morford of Earlham, Ruby Lull and Lois Wight of Winterset; two brothers, Claude of Los Angeles, California and Frank of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Liner of Vandervort, Arkansas and Mrs. Myrtie Short of Winterset, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church. The Rev. Ward B. Tarr was in charge, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Lanning.

Widely Known Man Dies After Short Illness. Lived In County Entire Life.
Arch Wight died Friday afternoon art his home in Winterset, of nerve shock followed by pneumonia. In an unavoidable accident February 7 on a Walnut township hill, Wight struck James Decker who died the following day. Brooding over the affair, overcome with remorse, Wight became ill the day of the accident and was unable to rally when attacked by pneumonia.
He was a member of one of the oldest families in the southwest part of the county, and was widely known in Webster township where he was born September 13, 1873, and throughout the entire county where he spent all his life.
He was the son of George and Susan Cordelia Wight, both deceased. He was married to Mata Hart March 2, 1898, and a number of years ago left the farm in Webster to move to Winterset where he was employed at the Farmers elevator. About twenty-five years ago he joined the Oak Grove Evangelical church.
He leaves his wife and four children, Harry Wight, Mrs. Ruth Lull and Miss Lois Wight of Winterset; Mrs. Dorothy Morford of Earlham; two brothers, Claude of Los Angeles, California; Frank of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Susie Liner of Vandervort, Arkansas; Mrs. Myrtle Short of Winterset; and six grandchildren. Two sisters are deceased, Mrs. Lillie Hart and Mrs. Edna Shaw.
The Rev. Ward B. Tarr, pastor of the Oak Grove Evangelical church conducted the services Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church in Winterset, assisted by Rev. L. H. Lanning. Burial was in the Winterset cemetery. Pall bearers were E. R. Tompkins, C. C. Bek, Joseph Comp, Loren Eyerly, Fred Kuntz, and Roy Temple.
