Tuesday Services For Ray Schulz

Ray J. Schulz of Rural Route 4, Winterset died Friday, August 31, at his home at the age of 78. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg. Burial was at the Moon Cemetery with Rev. John Ackerman officiating.

The son of Otto A. and Christina Luers Schulz, he was born on April 25, 1901 at Hebron in Adair County. On January 28, 1928 in Winterset he married Esther Busch, who preceded him in death on May 8, 1936. They were the parents of a daughter, Maxine. On July 6, 1947 he was remarried to Doris Eyerly Chickering in rural Winterset, who survives him.

Mr. Schulz moved to Winterset from Adair County 47 years ago and was a farmer until he retired in 1965. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are his daughter, Maxine McConnell of Des Moines; two stepsons, Marvin Chickering of Algona and Dwayne Chickering of Malvern; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Larry Hughes of Winterset; a brother, William W. Schulz of Sidney, Neb., 11 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ernest and Frank; and three sisters, Mattie Martin, Louise Huffman and an infant sister, Lydia.
