ELIAS GILBERT Of Kasson Succumbs

Elias Sylvester Gilbert, long-time resident of the Kasson neighborhood south of Macksburg, died at his home there on Dec. 18, 1939. He was 79 years of age, and for 72 years had lived in the community where he died.

Mr. Gilbert was born Oct. 16, 1860 in Marion county, the son of Elias and Mary Shambaugh Gilbert. On March 21, 1890, he was married to Miss Etta Hart of Macksburg. They were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Cleo Libby, who resides in the family home.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he leaves three brothers, Charlie Gilbert, with whom he was in partnership in farming, Truman Gilbert of Guthrie Center, and Ezra Gilbert of Afton.

Funeral services were held from the Macksburg Methodist church on Dec. 20 in charge of the pastor, the Rev. M. D. Summerbell. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Jay Steele, Wayne Crow, Jay Thompson and James Steele. Burial was made in the Moon cemetery.
