MAUDE EDWARDS DIES AT 87 YEARS

Funeral Services Held Monday From First Methodist Church

Mrs. Gaylord Edwards of Winterset, well-known resident of Madison county for half a century, died Friday Nov. 8, at at nursing home in Marshalltown. She was 87 years of age.

Mrs. Edwards was a native of Bureau county, Illinois, where she was born near the town of Sheffield on February 14, 1876. She was a daughter of Cyrus R. and Isabell Heaton. The family later moved to a farm near Princeton, Ill.

She was married Dec. 18, 1901, to Gaylord Edwards, They moved to Scott township in Madison County in 1909, making their home there until 1934. when they retired from active farming and moved into Winterset.

Mr. Edwards died Aug. 1, 1955. For the last two years, Mrs. Edwards had lived in Marshalltown.

She is survived by four children; Mrs. Florence Thomas of Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Marian Miller of Marshalltown, Mrs. Eleanor Stegeman of San Mateo, Calif., and Irvin Edwards, who lives on the home farm near Winterset. One son, William Edwards, was killed while serving with the U. S. Armed forces during World War II.

She also leaves six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer Heaton of Woonsocket, S. Dak.

In Scott township, Mrs. Edwards was a member of Zion Federated church. After moving to Winterset, she affiliated with the First Methodist Church. During her long life she played an active role in the affairs of her church and community.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First Methodist church in Winterset, with the pastor the Rev. John C. Porath officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
