Harry Chestnutwood, Winterset

Harry J. Chestnutwood, 79, of Winterset died of heart failure Sept. 6, 2003, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Joan White officiating. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 10) at Evening Star Lodge 43 in Winterset with Ray Nuzum officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Earlham Cemetery.

Harry Chestnutwood was born April 29, 1924, in Dallas County to Harry Levi and Ruth Annette (Crawford) Chestnutwood. He was a 1942 graduate of DeSoto High School. On Nov. 30, 1947, he married Lois Schultze at the Methodist parsonage in VanMeter. Harry worked in many positions over the years; painter, maintenace worker at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, janitor and bus driver in the DeSoto Community School district, truck driver and livestock handler. He also farmed, retiring in 1996. He was a 51-year member of the Masons, including the Madison Lodge of Earlham, Adel Lodge and Evening Star Lodge 43 of Winterset. He also was a member of Casey Eastern Star Lodge 343, holding the office of sentinel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Chestnutwood.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Chestnutwood of Winterset.
