Thomas Eugene Clague
Owatonna, Minnesota

Earlham native Thomas Eugene Clague passed away on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1:38 a.m. born in 1923 in Earlham to Glenn and Hazel Clague, Tom graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in journalism and agricultural engineering. He married Ann Eliason in 1950. They began their family in Ottumwa and then moved to Dubuque, where Tom worked for Allis Chalmers and wrote for Farm Journal and many other agricultural publications. In 1956, they moved to Chicago where Tom worked for an ad agency on farm machinery accounts. The family moved to Owatonna, Minn., in 1962, when Tom became director of sales relations for the Gandy Corporation, a position he held for many years.

Possessing a fine tenor voice, and instincts of the long musical heritage of his family's immigrant roots from the Isle of Man, Tom had a lifelong passion for music. He sang in church and community choruses wherever he lived and remembered with particular fondness his own father's beautiful voice.

Tom is survived by siblings Marybell (and Chuck Day) of Knoxville, Iowa, and Ruth (and Dean Jones) of Manchseter, Iowa; his sons, Brian Clague (and Dan Stephens) of Boston, Mass., and Kevin Clague of Owatonna, Minn.; a daughter, Candace (and Richard Dombrock) of Owatonna; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Karen.

A funeral service and internment will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Worthington Methodist Church Cemetery, Earlham. Donations may be made to the church or to any local music program.
