Robert M. Chestnutwood, 75, of DeSoto died of a stroke on June 25, 2003, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Graveside memorial services were held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Earlham Cemetery in Earlham.

He was born May 28, 1928, in rural Dallas County, the son of Harry Chestnutwood Sr. and Ruth Crawford. He graduated from DeSoto High School and served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He was employed at AiReaserch of Phoenix, Ariz., for many years as a supervisor in their rocket and jet engine plant. He returned to Iowa and farmed with his brother, Harry, on the family farm near DeSoto.

He loved to go to coffee shops and visit with friends and neighbors. He loved watching TV, spending time with family, and fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry Chestnutwood Jr.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Chestnutwood of Adel and Jon Chestnutwood of Phoenix, Ariz,; two daughters, Deborah Boillot, of Mesa, Ariz. and Tamra Chestnutwood of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
