C. C. Bek, 93, Died Mar. 14

C. C. Bek of Winterset, retired farmer and resident of Madison county since 1915, died Tuesday, March 14, at the Horton Nursing home. He was 93 years of age.

Christian Carl Bek was born at Seward, Nebr., on Dec. 10, 1878, a son of the Rev. Christian and Paulina Maier Bek. In early life he also lived in Alhambra, Ill., and Falls City, Nebr. before moving to Cass county, Iowa, in 1902.

He was married at Atlantic on July 22, 1903, to Pearl E. Erickson. Her death occurred April 23, 1963.

He farmed near Massena until 1913, when he purchased the hardware and implement store in Massena. In 1915 he moved to a farm in Madison county, near the Oak Grove church in Webster township. He later farmed in Scott township. He had been retired since 1948.

Mr. Bek was a long-time member of the Madison County Farm Bureau, serving as president in 1930 and 1931. He also served on the Agricultural Adjustment board.

He was a member of the Oak Grove church, and later of the Grace Baptist church in Winterset.

Surviving are three daughter, Mrs. W. F. Ferguson of Grand Junction, Colo., Mrs. George Wight of Winterset, and Mrs. Clifford Bruett of Winterset; and two sons, Carl Bek of Winterset and Joe Bek of Kingsley. One son, Gerald C. Bek, died in 1970.

He also leaves 22 grandchildren; 28 great grand-children; six half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Grace Baptist church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Lon K. Reising. Burial was made in Winterset cemetery.
