Margy Carter, Stuart

Margy Carter, 84, died sept. 29, 2003, at the Community Care Center in Stuart.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 2, at Grace Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor Alex Bauman and Lay Pastor John Safford officiating. Burial was at Dexter Cemetery.

Margy Carter was born May 22, 1919, to Arthur and Madelene (Smith) Travis of rural Redfield. At age seven, she was raised by Wilbur Cornman and her mother Madelene. She attended North High School in Des Moines and then attended and graduated from beauty school. On Dec. 5, 1940, she married Wilbur Carter in Des Moines. Margy and her husband spent 50 years farming south of Stuart and Dexter. She also worked as a nurse's aide at the Dexter Clinic until it closed. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by a daughter, Sharilnn Algreen of Dexter; four sons, Ronald Carter and Randy Carter, both of Ankeny, Dale Carter of Des Moines and Gary Carter of Mills, Wyo; a sister, Jeanie Jarman of Walker, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
