Edith Ryner Dies At 94

Funeral services for Edith Ryner, a 94-year-old, life long resident of Madison County, were held Monday morning, Dec. 22, from Collins Funeral home here.

Edith May Woods, daughter of George and Martha Witt Woods, was born in Madison County on April 30, 1996, and died in Winterset on December 19, 1980. She was a lifetime resident of Madison County.

On December 12, 1906, she married W. A. Ryner in Winterset. He died March 12, 1952. They farmed in Union Township where the Ryner family settled after the Civil War. Edith lived in her country home until 1975, when she moved to an apartment in Winterset. She had lived in North Care Center for the past two years.

In childhood she joined the United Brethern Church, and attended regularly until the church closed. In 1932 the family transferred to the United Presbyterian Church in Winterset, where she attended until her health failed.

She had been a member of Crown Rebekah Lodge for over 72 years, holding most of the offices. She was a charter member of the Union township W. W. Club, belonged to the Women's Democratic Club and was a 35 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brother, one sister and two infant children.

She is survived by a son, William, of Winterset, a daughter, Ople Detrick of Indianola, one granddaughter, Mary Jane Heaivilin of Indianola, three grandson, Richard and Larry of Kansas City and Dan of Winterset, Heidi Heaivilin and Kelly Jo Ryner, and one great-grandson, Bill Heaivilin.

Officiating at the funeral was Pastor John Long, with graveside services by M. D. Heaivilin. Burial was in North McDonald cemetery.
