Ella Jane Garrett, daughter of Sollomon and Sarah Jane Garrett, was born in Adair county, Iowa, April 10, 1861, and passed away at her home in Winterset, February 1, 1929.
Her birthplace was her home until her marriage to Thos. J. Wise on February 14, 1883. To this union one child was born, a daughter, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Wise has lived her entire life in Iowa, with the exception of one year spent in California, and since 1893 she has made her home in Winterset, where she made many friends who will miss her kindly ways. She was a woman who was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends and relatives, and sacrificed her own health to be of service to them.
She had been in failing health for several years, and last June it was thought advisable to take her to the hospital at Oakdale. But when she knew there was no help for her, she asked to be brought home where she spent her last hours and passed away at the age of 67 years, 9 months and 22 days.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Moffit, of Livingstone, Montana, and Mrs. Francis Mapes, of Winterset; one brother, John L. Garrett, living on the home place in Adair county, and her nieces and nephews. One sister, Mrs. Addie Lowden, preceded her in death eighteen years ago.
Funeral services were held at the Tidrick funeral home at 1:30 o'clock February 4th, conducted by the Rev. Paul M. Fowler, with interment at the Roberts cemetery in Adair county.
