Page 1Death of Thomas J. Wise
Thomas J. Wise, veteran carpenter and a resident of this community since 1893 died at the home of a niece, Mrs. A. C. Roberts, in Greenfield, Monday.
Death came to the well-known Winterset citizen suddenly, although he had been in faltering health for some time. He was 87 years of age.
Mr. Wise was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania on March 8, 1849. As a young man he moved to Iowa, settling in Adair county. There he was married on February 14, 1883, to Ella Jane Garrett. They were the parents of a daughter who died in infancy.
After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett lived on a farm in Adair county, except for a year spent in California, until 1893, when they moved to Winterset. Mrs. Wise died in 1929. Mr. Wise continued to make his home here until about three months ago, when he went to the Roberts home in Greenfield.
Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Tidrick Funeral home in Winterset, in charge of Rev. M. R. Talley of the Methodist church. Burial was made in the Roberts cemetery in Adair county.
