Gale Emerson, son of J. S. "Ves" Emerson and Dulcie (Weeks) Emerson, was married to Marie Fredrickson, daughter of Oscar and Callie (Macumber) Fredrickson. They made their home on a farm near Peru. The farm was the old homestead that was purchased by Gale's grandfather, James Emerson, for $1.25 an acre from the government when President Filmore was in office. To this union was born a daughter, Doris and a son, Dean. They lived on the farm until Gale retired and then they moved to Winterset where they built a new home. Only one member of this family is still living (in 1987), Doris Emerson See. She lives near Peru on a part of the original homestead.
