JAMES EARL EMERSON

East Peru Centennial Book
1887-1987

Earl, the son of Joseph Sylvester and Sarah Augusta (Lilley) Emerson, was born October 1, 1885 on a farm one mile north of "Old Peru". On February 15, 1905, he married Floda Pearl DeLong, the daughter of Lyman and Julia DeLong, and they lived on the Emerson homestead until 1908, when they built a house 1/4 mile west. Earl farmed, and for a short period of time (approximately 1918-1920) ran a feed store in Peru. Earl and Floda had one daughter, Gussie Irene, born December 8, 1906, and one son, Lyman Rex, born November 3, 1920. In 1931 Earl and Floda moved to Winterset and their daughter and her husband, Carroll Beverlin, moved onto the farm.

Earl passed away August 2, 1955. Floda lived in her Winterset home until 1978 and then entered Bethesda Care Center. Floda passed away December 24, 1985 at the age of 98.
