Stanley R. Porter

INWOOD, Iowa--Stanley R. Porter, 72, of rural Inwood, died Friday, Feb. 23, 1990, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Inwood, with the Rev. Kenneth Hamann officiating. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with Masonic services at 6 p.m., and visitation with family present from 6:30-8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Inwood.

Mr. Porter was born Feb. 16, 1918, in LeMars. He graduated from Inwood High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Central Europe, Jan. 21, 1942, to July 7, 1945. He married Lorraine Coyer Sept. 4, 1942, in Orlando, Fla. They farmed near Inwood, where he was a longtime R.E.C. Board member, and a member of the Inwood Farmers' Elevator Board. He was a member of the Inwood American Legion post, and the Sapphire Masonic Lodge 427 of Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Myers of Mercer Island, Wash., Margo and Gary Breitag of Bemidji, Minn., and Emily and Dean Dalzell of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a brother, John Porter of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Wilson (Rose) Duven of Pella, Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Moen of Inwood, and Mrs. Donald (Alice) Clark of Alma, Kan., and six grandchildren.

Mr. Porter's death was ruled a suicide.

OBITUARY--STANLEY PORTER

Funeral services for Stanley Ray Porter, 72, Inwood, were held Monday, Feb. 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Inwood.

Officiating at the services were Rev. Kenneth Hamann, Rev. Robert Bagley, and Rev. Don White.

Pallbearers were Galen Vande Vegte, Dale Bonnema, James Miller, Glen Vande Vegte, Darrel Bonnema, Mike Myers.

Masonic services were held Sunday in Porter Funeral Home.

Mr. Porter died Friday, Feb. 23 at his home of an apparent suicide.

Born February 16, 1918 in LeMars, Iowa, he graduated from Inwood High School and later married Lorraine Coyer in Orlando, Fla., on September 4, 1945. He served in the Army in World War II in North Africa and Central Europe from 1942 to 1945. They farmed near Inwood and he served as an REC board member, he was a member of the Inwood Farmers Elevator, Inwood American Legion, Sapphire Masonic Lodge #427 in Rock Valley and Bethel United Methodist Church, Inwood.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Mrs. Thomas (Nancy) Myers, Mercer Island, Wash.; Mrs. Gary (Margo) Breitag, Bimidji, MN.; and Mrs. Dean (Emily) Dalzell, Highlands Ranch, Colo.; six grandchildren; a brother, John of Rock Rapids; and three sisters: Mrs. Wilson (Rose) Duven, Pella; Mrs. Herman (Dorothy) Moen, Inwood; and Mrs. Donald (Alice) Clark, Alma, Kan.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Dora; two infant sisters; and two brothers, Adrian and Al Porter.
