Mike Reemts, 91, of Rock Rapids died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Royal C. Johnson Veteran Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services were Thursday, Nov. 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Reemts was born Aug. 22, 1913, at Steen, Minn., the son of Hiko and Epka (Wildeboer) Reemts. He grew up northeast of Rock Rapids and attended country school.

On Feb. 6, 1939, he married Laura Richters in Rock Rapids. They lived in Rock Rapids where he worked various jobs, including at Pettengill Lumber. He served in the navy during World War II. He returned to Rock Rapids in 1945 and worked at Pettengill's and built houses. He later worked at Culligan Water Conditioning before driving bulk truck for Mobil Oil Co. He was a custodian at Central Lyon School, then became building engineer at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, retiring in 1980.

His wife died March 5, 1991. He later became a resident of Premier Estates in Rock Rapids.
At Immanuel Lutheran Church, he served on the church board two years and ushered for funerals. He was active in Boy Scouts, served on the board of directors at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minn., and Lyon County Loan Closet and was a 60-year member of American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include two sons, David of Omaha, Neb., and the Rev. James of Portland Conn.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Jennie Timmerman of Worthington, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Alvine, Eppo and Jack, and one sister, Grace Dahlman.
