George, Iowa - Lawrence Woelber age 89 of George, died Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society of George.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hull, Iowa, with Pastor Chad Duffy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, Iowa.

Lawrence Woelber was born September 2, 1926 near George, Iowa, to Claus and Wilhelmina (Kruse) Woelber. He received his education at a country school as well as St. John Lutheran Parocial of Boyden.

On September 26, 1945 he was united in marriage to Netty Anna Schuett. The couple farmed most of their lives. They began farming near Boyden before moving to a farm near Hull and finally a farm near George. They moved into George in 1993. Lawrence was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church until 1955 when he became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church near Hull. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and telling stories. He also enjoyed watching Molly B’s polka show. He served as the Dale and Wheeler Township assessor for many years and was on the AMPI committee. He was also on the Lyon County Extension Board. On February 27, 2016 Lawrence passed away at the Good Samaritan Society Home in George, Iowa at the age of 89. He will be greatly missed.

Lawrence is survived by his wife of 70 years, Netty Woelber of George, Iowa; daughter, Darlene A. Woelber of Hull, Iowa; sons, Kenneth (Debbie) Woelber of Hull, Iowa, and Douglas (Wendy) Woelber of George, Iowa; daughter, Beverly Woelber of George, Iowa; grandchildren, Melinda (Mark) Van Beek of Sheldon, Iowa, Todd (Laura) Woelber of Hull, Iowa, Troy (Tina) Woelber of Hull, Iowa, Kayla (Brett) Goslinga of Sioux Center, Iowa, Mindi Woelber of Sioux Falls, SD, Dustin Woelber of Hull, Iowa, Tanner Woelber, Teyha Graham, Mia Graham, Savanna Nilles all of George, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Nicole (Charley) Dibbet of Sheldon, Iowa, Jessica Van Beek and fiancé Mitch Jensen, Luke Van Beek of Sheldon, Iowa, Tyler Woelber, Brody Woelber, Jacie Woelber, Kason Woelber, Landon Woelber, Brevin Woelber and Maelyn Woelber all of Hull, Iowa; sister-in-law , Betty Goeringer of Sheldon, Iowa; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helmut and Florence Schuett, Ed and Francis Schuett, and Walter Goeringer.
