From the Rock Valley Bee, November 1, 1918:

DEATH OF FRED RENSHAW

The Inwood Herald gives the following account of the death of Fred Renshaw whose people are well known here:

"The people of Inwood were deeply moved the past week by the report of the sudden death of Fred Renshaw, son of Mrs. Augusta Renshaw of this city, which occurred at Camp Dodge last Saturday, the cause being the effects of complications following influenza. As a boy and a young man he was ever a great favorite and very popular with the young people. He received his education in the common schools and later was graduated from the law department of the State University. After practicing law here for a few months he went to Montana where he was very successful. Was there elected to county office, and dealt considerably in lands in that vicinity. He was married in the west.

In July he responded to the call for soldiers and volunteered for service in the infantry, and it was but a few weeks ago that he with others from a western camp were transferred to Camp Dodge where he contracted the influenza. His wife and mother were summoned to his sickbed and his wife was with him some hours before he passed away, but the message to his mother came too late for her to reach him and the sad news of his death was here before she could leave town. Thus in giving his life he has paid the full measure of his devotion to his country and the cause he espoused. His name will forever be inscribed upon the roll of those who have made the supreme sacrifice.

The body will be brought here for burial on the family lot at the Inwood cemetery, and arrangements have been made for the funeral to occur Friday, tomorrow afternoon, at 2:30. Rev. Bates of the M. E. Church will officiate."
