Kenneth Habbinga, age 88, of George, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 24th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in George with Rev. Chad Duffy officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. Following the interment, friends are invited to join the family in a time of lunch and fellowship at the church.
Kenneth LaVerne Habbinga was born on December 12, 1926 near George, Iowa, to John and Anna (Stueven) Habbinga. He grew up in the George area and graduated from George High School with the class of 1944. After high school, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country in Korea. After his honorable discharge, Kenneth moved back to George and was united in marriage to Donna June Fie on September 12, 1958. For many years he worked on the family farm until he rented out the land. He then worked for SR Manufacturing until his retirement in 1996.
Kenneth enjoyed flowers, having numerous flower gardens during his younger years, and most recently loved to spend his time with his late dog, Molly. Kenneth was a lifetime resident of George and a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in George.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Amy Sue Habbinga of Camarillo, California; son, Paul (Pam) Habbinga of Boyden, Iowa; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Benjamin Habbinga, both of Boyden, Iowa; brother, Marvin Habbinga of George, Iowa; sister, Margaret Johnston of Richland, Washington; and several other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna June; infant daughter, Peggy Ann; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Kathryn Habbinga; and brother-in-law, Jack Johnston.
