Esther Koele, 88, of George died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital, Rock Rapids.

Services were Thursday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, George, with interment in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery.

Esther Van Briesen was born Feb. 28, 1916, near George, the daughter of Frederick and Coba (Christians) Van Briesen. She attended country school.

On June 5, 1935, she married John Peters. They lived in George until 1951 when they moved to Cherokee. He died in 1966.

In 1970, she married Dewey Koele. They lived in Hull. He died in 1982. She moved to George Good Samaritan Center Apartments in 1985.

Survivors include three sons, Gaylord Peters and Lowell Peters, both of Arnolds Park, and Larry Peters of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepson, Jim Koele of Wahpeton; four stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one infant daughter, three brothers and two sisters.
