Monica R. (Van Lent) Flower – Julyu 18, 1922 – May 12, 2014

Monica R. Flower, 91 of Sioux City, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014 at a local nursing facility. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Merlin Schrad as Celebrant. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 14th at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present at 5:00 p.m. and a Vigil Service starting at 6:00 p.m.

Monica was born on July 18, 1922 in Hubbard, Nebraska to John and Maude (Sorenson) Van Lent. She received her education at Emerson Catholic High School in Emerson, Nebraska and Nettleson Business School in Sioux City.

Monica married Lorenz J. Flower on October 12, 1944 in Tucson, Arizona.

The family was fortunate to live in various parts of the United States, including Rock Rapids, Iowa, where Monica was the assistant to the Superintendent of Schools; Moultrie, Georgia, where Monica worked a clerical position at the Spence Air Force Base; and Enterprise, Alabama, where Monica worked for the Chamber of Commerce.

Just prior to moving to Sioux City in June of 1980, the family lived in Corpus Christie, Texas, where Monica worked for the Corpus Christie Medical Society. While in Sioux City, Monica worked as Clerk for Woodbury County in the Motor Vehicles Department. Monica was a proud member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, the American Red Cross and the HAM Radio Club.

Monica is survived by her daughters Bonnie Bentley of Sioux City and Barbara Jansen and her husband Marv of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lorenz in 1992, and brother Jack Van Lent.

Her parents John and Maude Van Lent are buried in Saint Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Larchwood, Lyon, Iowa
