Charles John Lens – February 9, 1904 – January 2, 1975

SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR CHARLES LENS

Charles John Lens, a longtime resident of Rock Rapids, died Thursday at the Luverne hospital in Minnesota. He had been in failing health since last spring and had been hospitalized for about a week prior to his death.

Services were held this morning at Holy Name Church here with the Rev. R. E. Nemmers and the Rev. Leonard Clausen officiating. Interment was at Holy Name Cemetery.

Bearers were Vince Madsen, Herman Goettsch, Ray Burland, Cliff Huisman, Steve Sehr and g. B. Kerkvliet. Alternates were C. A. Morrison and Calvin Roach.

Lens was the son of John and Marie Van Leeuwen Lens. He was born at Larchwood on February 9, 1904. He was married to Agatha Underberg at Larchwood, February 10, 1931. They farmed in the Larchwood community for many years, moving to Rock Rapids in 1952. Here he worked for product firms for some years.

Surviving are the widow; six sons: Edward of Valley Springs, Raymond of Rock Rapids, James of Marcus, John of Monterey, California, Wayne of Humboldt, and David at home; two daughters: LaVonne, Mrs. William Lupkes and Alice, Mrs. Gerry Moeller, both of Rock Rapids.

There are 16 grandchildren; a brother, George of Larchwood; two sisters: Alieda, Mrs. John Scholten and Emma, Mrs. Ben Van Vooren, both of Larchwood. He was preceded in death by three sons and one daughter.
