August “Augie” Johnson – August 10, 1916 – June 9, 1998

August “Augie” Johnson, 81, of Rock Rapids died Monday, June 9, 1998, at Lyon Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center. Services were Thursday at Peach Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born August 10, 1916, in the Doon area, the son of Charles and Julia (Wendorf) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in the Doon area.

On December 14, 1939, he married Bernice File. They operated several cafes in Rock Rapids and Alvord. He also drove truck for McCormack Transportation in Rock Rapids and was a gravel truck driver for Lyon County. His wife died April 5, 1967.

On July 24, 1921, he married Agatha Lens at Rock Rapids. She died May 8, 1991. In September 1996, he moved to Lyon Manor Care Center.

Survivors include two children, Susan and Kelly Johnson, and one grandson, eight step-children, 22 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren.
