Tena Klosterboer, age 96 of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Services are pending with the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Tena Anna (Reck) Klosterboer 1917-2013

Rock Rapids, Iowa - Tena Klosterboer, age 96 of Rock Rapids, died on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23rd at Bethel Reformed Church in Little Rock, Iowa, with Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22nd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Tena Anna Klosterboer was born March 11, 1917 to Jerry and Dea (Willms) Reck in Midland Township, Lyon County, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She then became a “hired girl” to farmers' wives in need of help.

Tena married Henry A. Klosterboer on January 25, 1939 at her parents’ home. They farmed in several locations in Nobles County, Minnesota, and Lyon County, Iowa. In May of 1975 Tena’s husband, Henry died after 36 years of marriage. Tena continued to farm with her youngest son until 1980, when she moved into Rock Rapids.

She was a life-long member of Bethel Reformed Church of rural Little Rock, Iowa. She was an active member of the Dorcas Society and the quilt committee for 20 years. She enjoyed sewing and volunteering at Dinner Date.

This past Saturday, May 18, 2013 Tena died at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 96. She is survived by her five children, Arlen (wife, Arlene) Klosterboer of Bryan, Texas, Darlene (husband, Elmer) Aeilts of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Charlene (husband, Dave) Marquart of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Gerald (wife, Laura) Klosterboer of Zephyr Cove, Nevada, and Dallis (wife, Kim) Klosterboer of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter Reck of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Dea Reck; her husband, Henry Klosterboer; and two grandchildren, Alan Aeilts and Darci Marquart.
