John Edward Wagenaar – November 29, 1937 – May 8, 2005

JOHN EDWARD WAGENAAR, 67, of George, died Sunday, May 8, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center in George.

Born Nov. 29, 1937, on a farm south of Little Rock, Iowa, he was the son of Andrew and Lena Kruger Wagenaar. He married Darlene Gruis on May 18, 1960, at the Presbyterian Church, Little Rock.

He was raised and educated in Little Rock, graduating from Little Rock High School in 1955. After his education, he served in the Army for two years. He was stationed in Fort Ord, Calif., and Fort Louis, Wash., and he attained a rank of E4.

After his discharge, he returned to Little Rock. After marriage, they lived in Little Rock and later moved to Ellsworth, then to Sibley, Iowa; Boyden, Iowa; and to retirement in George. He was a farmer, worked at Chase Bag Co. in Sibley, Napa Auto Parts, drove RTA bus for Head Start, and for 13 years worked at Demco Manufacturing in Boyden. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, George. In December 2003, he became a resident of George Good Samaritan Center.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Alan (Terresa) Wagenaar, Ellsworth, and Clayton (Jodi) Wagenaar, Melvin, Iowa; one daughter, Lori (Denny) Heemstra, Primghar, Iowa; one brother, Gayle (Carolyn) Wagenaar, Rushmore; one sister, LeAnn (Harlan) Doeden, Sibley; and 10 grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home, George

The service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, George, with the Rev. Steve May officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Cemetery, George.
