Frances Lillian Kruse Walker – January 4, 1913 – December 19, 2005

Frances L. Walker, age 92, of Brookings, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 23, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings, with interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitations will precede services at the church on Friday, beginning at 12 noon.

Frances Lillian Walker was born January 4, 1913, at Little Rock, Iowa, to Enno and Dora (Reiter) Kruse. Her father died in 1918, and her mother married Jacob Walker. Aft the age of 7, Frances moved with her mother and step-father to Brookings. She attended school in Afton District No. 12 until the 8th grade. She lived on the farm and helped with every chores. She was employed a the College Cleaners and Montgomery Ward in Brookings. In 1968 she moved to Sioux Falls and continued working at Montgomery Ward there until her retirement in 1977. She continued living in Sioux Falls until moving to Brookview Manor in Brookings in 2003.

Frances was a member of the V.F.W. in Brookings, American Legion Auxiliary in White, and the United Methodist Church and Golden Age Club in Sioux Falls.

Survivors include two brothers: Arthur Walker of Brookings and Vernon (Rita) Walker of Flandreau, South Dakota; four sisters: Margaret (Merlin) Haber of Brookings, Elvera Holtorf of Colman, South Dakota, Marilyn Skogstad of Sioux Falls, and Neva (Stanley) Corlett of Brookings; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father, two step-brothers, one step-sister, one brother, and one sister.
