Chris Grotewold Dies at Larchwood

Many Attend Funeral

LARCHWOOD, IOWA - Special to the Reporter: Funeral services were held here Saturday for Chris Grotewold, a resident of this community for many years, who died November 7, following a short illness. Interment was made in the Larchwood cemetery.

Mr. Grotewold was born at Clermont, Fayette county, Iowa on November 4, 1868, and was 66 years of age at the time of his death.

Early in life Mr. Grotewold came to Lyon county with his parents, who located on a farm near Larchwood. On February 10, 1897 he was married to Antonia Bender.

For a number of years Mr. Grotewold was engaged in business in Larchwood. Later he took up farming and was interested in that work until he retired a few years ago.

Those who survive him are his wife and five children: Robert, of Minneapolis; Homer, Elizabeth, Amanda and Woodrow, all of Larchwood; six brothers; William Frank, Charles, and Ernest of Larchwood; Henry, of Port Townsend, Washington; and George, of Carrington, North Dakota, and two sisters, Mrs. G. Anglim, of Orient, South Dakota, and Mrs. Louise Nicholsen, of Inwood.

A host of friends from a distance as well as many Larchwood people were present at the funeral services.
