Clazena Voogd, 100, of Rock Rapids died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Lyon Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services were Saturday at United Methodist Church, Rock Rapids, with interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Clazena DeBooy was born Dec. 24, 1902, in Orange City, the daughter of Cyrenus and Teuntje (Muilenburg) DeBooy. She grew up in Orange City and graduated from Orange City High School in 1920. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City two years where she received her teaching certificate. She taught grade school four years in Moville before continuing her education at the University of Iowa where she received her bachelor's degree in English education. She taught high school English in Orange City.

On Dec. 1, 1928, she married A.F. DeHaan in Orange City. On their honeymoon, he became ill and died.

She continued teaching in Orange City and then at Central High School in Sioux City before taking a position at the high school in Rock Rapids.

On July 12, 1939, she married A.O. "Abe" Voogd in Orange City. After she retired from teaching high school, she was a substitute teacher and also taught knitting in adult education courses.
Her husband died Dec. 1, 1980. For the past eight years, she was a resident of Lyon Manor.
At United Methodist Church, she played piano before Sunday services and was the anonymous donor to purchase and install an elevator. During World War II, she was chairperson of Lyon County Red Cross. She served as treasurer of Lyon County Cancer Society 25 years and was a member of PEO 59 years.

Survivors include one stepson, Arnold Voogd of Salinas, Calif.; three stepgrandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; stepson, Gerald Voogd; three brothers, Matt, Hubert and Cy, and two sisters, Margaret and Mildred.
