Charley Zylstra, 90, of Sibley died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Osceola Community Hospital, Sibley.
Services were Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Sibley, with interment in Holman Township Cemetery.

Mr. Zylstra was born Nov. 23, 1913, near Rock Rapids, the son of Peter and Ida (Tolsma) Zylstra. When he was 5, the family moved to Little Rock where he attended school. He worked on the family farm until his parents retired, then moved into Little Rock.

On Nov. 27, 1935, he married Edna Balster in Rock Rapids. They farmed near Little Rock until 1944 when they moved to a farm near Sibley. They moved into Sibley in 1973. He was in the seed business in Sibley for more than 20 years.

At First Presbyterian Church, he served as a trustee and chairman. He was a member of Iowa Farm Bureau and served as Osceola Farm Bureau president, vice-president treasurer and voting delegate. He served on the Farmers Co-op Elevator board in Sibley 15 years and as president eight years, and as an Osceola County trustee several terms.

Survivors include one son, Robert of Spirit Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Stan (Marlys) Smebakken of Eagan, Minn., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
