Inwood, Iowa - Inga Thompson, 97, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Canton-Inwood Hospital, Canton, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Inwood. Burial will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery.

Inga Marie Skjegestad Thompson, daughter of Bergitte (Eieseland) and Torkel Skjegestad, was born March 5, 1909 at Inwood, Iowa. She attended the Klondike country school and Augustana Academy in Canton, South Dakota. Following her education, she worked for Dr. Stevenson, an optometrist, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Chester H. Thompson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on June 20,1934. The couple made their home on a farm west of Inwood. Following Chester's death in April, 1991, she moved to Fellowship Village in Inwood, Iowa. Inga's life centered around her family, her home, and her church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, playing the piano, rook parties, and attending Ladies Aid and Sons of Norway.

She enjoyed traveling to visit relative and friends. She especially enjoyed a trip to Norway to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Her home was always open to family and friends. She was well known for her cooking skills and great dinner parties. Even unexpected guests would be treated to wonderful baked goods along with a strong cup of coffee. Lefsa and other ethnic foods were often ready to be enjoyed by "fellow Norwegians". She was a life long member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church; having been baptized, confirmed (in Norwegian), and married at the church.

She was an active member of the Ladies Aid and a diligent worker at the many church functions.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: daughter, Bonnie and her husband Robert Olson, Sioux Falls, daughter, Charlotte Van Bockern, Sioux Falls, son, Chester and his wife Sandy, Inwood; eight grandchildren: Marcia Carsrud, Colton, Sharla Jonnes, Canton, Amy Gheorghiu, Atlanta, Georgia, Mike Olson, Tea, Julie Kanengieter, Tea, Sheila Stewart, Sioux Falls, Lisa Krogh, Tea, and Pat Thompson, Sioux Falls; seventeen great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Alice Mitchell, Lancaster, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester, an infant son Roger Lee, one brother Kjerolf Skjegestad, and one sister, Rebecca Skjegestad.
