Verna Viola (Kostman) Haegele

February 16, 1914 -- September 10, 2007

VERNA V. HAEGELE, 93, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at the Merrill Pioneer Community Hospitals, Rock Rapids.

Verna Kostman was born February 16, 1914 near Rock Rapids, the daughter of John and Nellie (Heins) Kostman. She grew up in Rock Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School in 1932.

On August 19, 1959, she married Will Haegele in Spirit Lake. He died in 1993.

At United Methodist Church she served as church treasurer over 30 years and was a member of Naomi Circle. In the early 1940's and 1950's, she was a member of Rock Rapids Business and Professional Women. She volunteered at Dinner Date and Rock Rapids Health Center.

Survivors include one step-daughter; Mrs. Marion (Linda) McCormack of Rock Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two brothers, Wayne and infant Harvey; and one sister, Leta Polzine.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Roste Funeral Home, Rock Rapids.

The service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids.
