Jens Hansen

Jens Hansen, one of the early settlers of this vicinity, and who has made his home in this city since 1906, died at Los Angeles, California on Saturday evening, March 1, 1924, at 7 p.m. Death was caused by cancer, which had afflicted Mr. Hansen for some months' past. Mr. Hansen's passing was not unexpected, and his children who make their home in this vicinity, returned only last week from his bedside.

Mr. Hansen was born in Denmark on February 13, 1845, and spent his young manhood there. In 1868 he came to this country, and settled at Cedar Falls, in this state. In the year 1871 he came to Rock County, Minnesota, where he took a homestead, which continued to be the home of the deceased and his family, until they came to Rock Rapids to make their residence.

On August 15, 1873, Mr. Hansen married the daughter of A. C. Sorenson, a neighbor. Mrs. Hanson still lives, and was at the aide of her husband when the end arrived. To this union was born six children, all of whom are now living. They are: Mrs. O. J. Ogram, of Jamestown, California, Henry and William, farming in Rock County, Minnesota, Carl, of Sioux City, Julius, of Lester and Louise, who was in Los Angeles with her parents.

William Hansen left on Sunday for Los Angeles, and will return with the body of his father, who will be buried here. On account of the ill health of Mrs. Hansen, she and her daughter, Louise, will not return to Rock Rapids until a later date.

Funeral arrangements will not be made until the return of William Hansen.

The Hansens celebrated their golden wedding here on August 15, of the past year.
