George, Iowa - John Gronewold, age 87 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of George, Iowa, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, Dec. 7th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Soderquist officiating.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 6th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

George, Iowa - John Gronewold, age 87 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and formerly of George, Iowa, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Dow-Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, Dec. 7th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Soderquist officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, Iowa.

John D. Gronewold was born on January 6, 1925 on a farm near George, Iowa, the son of Dick and Johanna Gronewold.

He attended Country school near George until the 8th grade. He remained on the Gronewold family farm until retirement in 1987. In 2010 John moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to be closer to his family. He married Hannah Blau on November 5, 1952 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church of George, Iowa, where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. After retirement he and Hannah enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country and following the activities of their grandchildren.

John will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and practical jokes. He could always find someone he knew to talk to no matter where he was.

Left to cherish his memory is his three daughters, Paula Mora of Citrus Heights, California, Laura and husband Gary Steineke of Hartford, South Dakota, Sara and husband Larry Davis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; special foster daughter, Christina and husband Joseph Schwartz of Brandon, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one sister, Jenny Graves of George, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Hannah; two sons, Michael and Stephen; an infant daughter, Sharon; one son-in-law, Ramon Mora; one grandchild, Danny Mora; one great grandchild, Chase Margeson; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.
